Album

Evening Star is the second studio album by British musicians Robert Fripp and Brian Eno. It was recorded from 1974 to 1975 and released in December 1975. This album's recording and the preceding seven show European tour by the duo marked Fripp's first output after disbanding King Crimson and his last before temporarily retiring from music at the time thought to be permanently to study at the International Academy for Continuous Education in Sherborne House. The nearly 30-minute ending piece, An Index of Metals, keeps Evening Star from being a purely background listen as the loops this time contain a series of guitar distortions layered to the nth degree, Frippertronics as pure dissonance. As a culmination of Fripp and Eno's experiments, Evening Star shows how far they could go. Track Listing. Listen free to Fripp & Eno Evening Star Wind on Water, Evening Star and more. 5 tracks 46:08. Evening Star demonstrates how quickly Eno and Fripp evolved- it's confidently serene where No Pussyfooting was brashly assertive, and bears a closer resemblance to the 2004 EnoFripp collaboration The Equatorial Stars. Fripp's guitar is less often recognizable as such we frequently hear what resembles clouds of bowed strings drifting through each other. When it is recognizable, as on the title track, the guitar phrases seem deeply interwoven with the surrounding sounds rather than roaring over them. The album opens with a quartet of naturalistically themed pieces, evoking water, w. This is Fripp Eno - Evening Star by León Pedrouzo on Vimeo, the home for high quality videos and the people who love II: Evening Star: As the water evaporates from your mind you are left in the desert alone on the hot sand. It is evening time as the sun is now setting slowly from its perch as the ruler of the sky to be replaced by the moon. The sound of the guitars are the perfect accompaniment to this as off in the distance a caravan crosses a ridge unaware of what lays ahead of them, but you know they are euphoric that the temperature will plunge into a coolness more suitable for their weary travel

Mine is fine. Gave it a good wipe with a record brush and it plays perfectly fine. Silent and deep, lush sound. No complaints here.
Zaryagan
Absolutely horrible pressing. Surface noise throughout the entire record, both sides. 'Wind On Water' was heavily distorted in some places. Does anybody know if the japanese WHD Entertainment pressing from 2014 as well is of a better quality?

I just listened to the digital version of the record. I guess you're all mistaking something here: the surface noise is there in every format and every release, or so it seems to me, and I think that's because of the way the music was recorded: the process of recording the guitar sound in the Revox and playing it back at the same time to the other Revox in order to get layering and feedback is... well, a perfect source for hiss and surface noise. Or at least it was at that time.I'm not technically sure about it but - given the fact that not all of the songs on the album show the same degree of hissing, the nature of the surface noise is most probably in the source and not in the mastering-cutting-printing process. So I guess the DGM print is perfectly fine, as usually happens with their reissues.

No, some of these have pressing issues. I’m very familiar with this record and it had noise throughout and it isn’t present on the digital or previous vinyl pressings. Holding it up to the light, it had some sort of residue which didn’t clean off. Terrible QC..
Kiutondyl
Unbearable surface noise on my copy as well.New King Crimson reissues on Panegiric are superb pressings, rivalling the originals on many fronts, this is a bad surprise. Not worthy.

Lovely album. Not as great as No Pussyfooting, whose ambition and execution lead to a grander achievement. But the pressing question is the relevant one. I found this better than the DGM pressing of No Pussyfooting, which was lifeless. This is full and engaging, great tonal range, impressive weight to accentuated tones. Surface noise is less of an issue for me. "Dead quiet" is not vinyl's strong suit, and it doesn't last if you're lucky to find it. I know it is common to remark on this, but to my mind, it verges on a category mistake. Vinyl remains the supreme format for other virtues. That said, surface noise is a matter of degree and relative to the cost of the LP. My pressing of Evening Star is a bit noisy, but well within acceptable -- i.e. not distracting, and only slightly audible between tracks. Any word from Fripp on this, btw? No one can consider either repressing industry standard let alone exemplary.
Agalen
My copy of No Pussyfooting is astonishingly good. No ticks, pops or surface noise. Dynamics are incredible. Blew me away.
Konetav
Oh my. Well this is completely disappointing. I'm sitting here sort of stunned at how much surface noise is here. Side One was *not* good at all, and now that I'm hearing side two... this is very, very close to unlistenable. Looking this up online, there are plenty of complaints. I wish I had looked it up first before I jumped. I bought it online from a vendor so I can't return it... it's not the vendors fault. Unbelievable that this record passed quality control. It's awful. Buyer beware.
Purestone
Same here. I tried on two different set-ups, with 3 different cartrigdes, and even with micro-line AT 440 MLa sufrace noise is still there just at a bit lower level.
Abuseyourdna
My copy of this new reissue is, without any exaggeration, the most surface noise-ridden new record I've ever bought. There are moments when the surface noise seems louder than the actual music! Side A is bearable, but side B is just unlistenable: the hissing lasts through the entire track. Does anyone else have this problem? The recent (No Pussyfooting) vinyl reissue seems to suffer from the same problem.
thrust
Same problem. Bought yesterday...
Thetalen
Hi,I've got the same problem. Probably the worst records I ever bought even though they were very expensive. I'll contact the Record Company in the next few days. As soon as I got some further informations, I'll post it here.

Mine just arrived and it is fine. (To be clear, catalog # on spine is DGMLP2). A few crackles, and one rather rude "crunch" on side 2. Hoping the crackles will polish out with a few plays. They must've gotten their act together. Sorry you guys got hosed on a $36 (ow!) record. It's lousy to have to send something back. A wonderful LP, by the way. I think I need more Fripp/Eno.
Uleran
yep mine is pretty bad as well, I wouldn't be as upset if it wasn't so overpriced...

I just picked this up and I have the same issues. Taking it back tomorrow.
Shistus
My copy had the same problems.I returned it to the record store and the shopkeeper told me he has a second copy witch also has this loud surface noise.I think I have to stuck with my old pressing witch crackles a bit but is much more comfortable to listen to than this pressing.
